| | | CNPC operates four exploration projects in Mauritania - Block Ta13, Block Ta21, Block 12 and Block 20. Block Ta13 and Block Ta21 are located in the Taoudeni Basin, covering an area of 19,778.5 square kilometers and 15,292.45 square kilometers respectively. Block 12 and Block 20 are located in the coastal basin. Block 12 covers an area of 10,339.05 square kilometers.
Drilling, formation testing and comprehensive geological research have been conducted by CNPC in these blocks. In 2006, gas and oil show was observed in the first exploration well Heron-1 allocated in Block 20. |

| | | | Aug. 18, 2005 The Farm-out Agreement on Block 20 was approved by the Mauritanian National Assembly.
Jun. 27, 2005 CNPC became the operator of Block 20 after signing a Farm-out Agreement with Brimax Petroleum Limited.
Jan. 23, 2005 The production sharing contract covering Block Ta13, Block Ta21 and Block 12 came into force, following the approval by the Mauritanian National Assembly.
Sept. 06, 2004 CNPC signed a contract with the Ministry of Industry and Mining of Mauritania for the exploration and development of Block Ta13, Block Ta21 and Block 12, with the exploration term of nine years and the development term of 25 years.
